About the practice

One person, one full case, a carefully reasoned prescription

Every case at MIHI begins with a detailed conversation about your symptoms: where they are, how they feel, what makes them better or worse, and what comes with them. We then analyse the case with the repertory and recommend either a single classical remedy or a combination of remedies, whichever approach suits your case.

We see adults, children and families from Dublin, Pleasanton, San Ramon, Livermore and across the Bay Area, and clients further afield by video. As a research practice and school, our student consultants also observe and assist under the supervision of a qualified consultant, with your consent.

  • Time to listenA first consultation of about 90 minutes, so nothing important is rushed.
  • A transparent methodCase-taking using locality, sensation, modalities and concomitants, with the reasoning recorded in your file.
  • Regular follow-upReviews every four to six weeks to track what has changed.
  • Clear safety limitsWe work alongside your doctor and refer you back promptly when needed.
  • Confidential recordsYour case notes are never shared without your consent.

Our approaches

Classical and combination homeopathy

Both approaches start from the same detailed case-taking and repertorisation. They differ in how the prescription is put together. Your consultant explains which they recommend and why, and you can tell us if you have a preference.

One remedy at a time

Classical homeopathy

A single remedy is chosen to match the whole picture: your main complaint together with your general and emotional symptoms. Its effect is reviewed before anything is changed.

Often chosen for
Long-standing patterns where the whole person is the focus
Prescription
One remedy and potency, adjusted at follow-up
Follow-up
Usually every 4–6 weeks

Example of a written prescription: Pulsatilla 30C

Two or more remedies together

Combination homeopathy

Two or more remedies are used together or in a planned sequence, each selected for a distinct part of the case, such as a local complaint and a general tendency. Every remedy in the combination is recorded with its own potency and timing.

Often chosen for
Several distinct complaints, or a local complaint alongside general symptoms
Prescription
A combination or sequence, each remedy with its potency and timing
Follow-up
Usually every 3–6 weeks

Example of a written prescription: Arnica 30C with Rhus tox 30C, alternating, morning and evening

The examples show how prescriptions are written. They are not recommendations for any condition. Please don't self-prescribe based on this website; ask your consultant, and tell your doctor about any remedies you take.

Questions

Frequently asked

What are modalities, and why do you ask about them?

Modalities are the things that make a symptom better or worse: heat or cold, motion or rest, time of day, weather, eating and so on. Two people with the same complaint often have very different modalities, and in classical homeopathy these differences guide the choice of remedy.

What is the difference between classical and combination homeopathy?

Classical homeopathy uses one remedy at a time, chosen to fit your whole picture. Combination homeopathy uses two or more remedies together or in a planned sequence, each chosen for a distinct part of your case. Both start from the same case-taking. Your consultant will explain which they suggest for you, and you can say if you prefer one.

Can I ask for a particular approach?

Yes. The symptom intake form asks whether you prefer classical, combination, or your consultant's recommendation. Your consultant takes your preference into account and explains their reasoning.

What is repertorisation?

A repertory is an index of symptoms, each listing the remedies associated with it. We select the rubrics that best describe your case, compare the remedies that recur across them, and study the strongest candidates in the materia medica before making a recommendation.

Can I keep taking my prescribed medication?

Yes. We never advise stopping or changing a prescribed medication. Any change to your medication is a decision for you and your doctor.

Do you see children?

Yes. A parent or guardian completes the intake form and attends every consultation for a child under 18.

Will a student consultant be present?

Only with your permission. As a school of homeopathy, we sometimes have a student observing or assisting under supervision. You can say no at any time without affecting your care.

How do video consultations work?

You receive a secure video link by email. The consultation follows the same structure as an in-person visit, and remedies are posted to you.
